Character.AI Plus (c.ai+): Price, What You Get, and Is It Worth It (2026)
c.ai+ is Character.AI’s full subscription: $9.99 a month or $94.99 a year in the US, for unlimited use of its premium models, no ads, the best memory tier and no slow mode. Below it sits c.ai lite at $4.99 a month, and below that the free plan, which still has unlimited messaging.
Two things that people often expect from c.ai+ are not in any plan: it does not change the filter, and it does not skip the age check. Those two facts decide more purchases than anything on the feature list, so this page covers them near the top.
Prices and plan contents were checked on Character.AI’s own upgrade screen and its help centre on 28 September 2026. The plans changed twice this year — lite arrived in September, and the memory features between April and July — so check the date on anything you read about them, including this.

The Price

These are US prices. Character.AI prices by region, and its lite FAQ says it does so “so (c.ai) lite is affordable in local markets”. Its answer to why your price is different is simple: “The price shown to you at checkout is the price you’ll pay.” Check the app for yours.
The yearly saving is correct: twelve months at $9.99 is $119.88, and the upgrade screen shows that figure crossed out next to $94.99. Paid yearly, c.ai+ works out to about $7.92 a month.
The weekly lite plan costs more than c.ai+
One thing on the lite side is easy to miss. Weekly lite is $2.49, and the upgrade screen presents monthly lite as a 54% saving against it. Do the arithmetic the other way: $2.49 a week is about $10.80 a month — more than a month of c.ai+ at $9.99, for a smaller plan.
Weekly lite makes sense only as a short trial. If you are going to keep it for a month, monthly lite is half the price, and c.ai+ gives you more for less.
Sales and giveaways
Character.AI runs discounts. Its Summer Flash Sale terms offer new and eligible returning subscribers three months for $14.99, then $9.99 a month, or the first year for $59.99, then $94.99 a year. No code is needed — eligibility is decided at checkout, and “if the promotional pricing does not appear at checkout, standard pricing applies to your account.” On the account we checked on 28 September, checkout showed the standard price.
Both offers renew automatically at the standard rate, and the terms say there is no separate reminder before they do.
For its fourth birthday Character.AI also gave away free three-month c.ai+ subscriptions on Instagram, TikTok, Reddit and Discord, with entries closing on 18 September 2026. That is the only kind of “free c.ai+” we found on Character.AI’s own pages. There is no published free trial.

What c.ai+ Actually Buys
The stronger models, every time
Character.AI calls its models chat styles. The free ones are PipSqueak 2 and PipSqueak 2 Rawr. The premium ones are DeepSqueak and LongSqueak.
Character.AI describes DeepSqueak as “our most powerful model” and “our strongest chat style, available with (c.ai+)”. On c.ai+ you can use it in every message. On lite you get a daily amount, shown on a meter in the Chat Styles menu; when it runs out, your chat continues on PipSqueak 2 until the next day. The free plan does not get the premium styles at all.
This is the biggest reason to pay, and it is newer than most advice online. Character.AI’s own c.ai+ FAQ still contains an old answer saying “The content outputted by Characters is currently the same between c.ai and c.ai+.” That was true in 2023. It is not true now that the strongest models are paid, and the plan comparison in the same help centre contradicts it. We have followed the newer pages.
Character.AI has also said that DeepSqueak 2 is in training. c.ai+ members got PipSqueak 2 a few weeks before free users in April 2026, so new models tend to reach subscribers first.
Memory — the one that changed this year
Until 2026, paying did not buy you memory on Character.AI. That has changed. Since the May 2026 memory update:
- Story Memory (notes you write) and pins are free for everyone. Free chats get 15 pins; lite and c.ai+ get 30.
- Facts — details the character picks up automatically as you chat — are c.ai+ only. On c.ai+ you can also copy Facts into a new chat with the same character.
- The detailed Memory Usage bar, which shows what is filling a chat’s memory, is on lite and c.ai+. Free gets a simple version.
- Advanced Lorebooks are c.ai+. Creating or editing a Lorebook needs c.ai+, and the lite FAQ places private Lorebooks in c.ai+ as well.

No ads, no slow mode
The free plan shows full ads, including full-screen ads between actions. lite removes the banner ads and shows fewer full-screen ones, but it still shows ads — Character.AI says ads “are part of what keeps lite’s price lower”. c.ai+ has none.
Slow mode is on the free plan, reduced on lite and gone on c.ai+. The older c.ai+ FAQ also describes subscribers skipping the Waiting Room, which Character.AI uses at peak load, and messages generating “approx. 2-3x faster”. That page is old, so treat the number as their claim from that time.
Feature limits
Some features have a daily cap on the free and lite plans and none on c.ai+. The clearest example is voice calls: free accounts get a daily number of Character Calls, and c.ai+ makes them unlimited. Character.AI voice and calls has the details. Muted words are another: 4 on free, 20 on c.ai+.
In April 2026 Character.AI’s CEO wrote that the company had “introduced usage limits on some features, and added more ad placements for free users”, and said why: “keeping Character.ai free and available to as many people as possible.” So the free plan got tighter in some places this year, and c.ai+ is the way around those limits.
The small extras
Priority access to new features, premium support, a badge, 20% bonus Charms when you buy Charm packs, and chat customization (wallpapers and bubble colours, which lite also gets). Charms are Character.AI’s in-app currency, which you can also earn through daily quests and spend to skip slow mode or ads one at a time.
What No Plan Unlocks
The filter
This is the question behind a large share of c.ai+ searches, and the answer is no. No plan changes what Character.AI allows. Its help centre is direct: “Pornographic content is against our terms of service, and will not be supported at any point in the future.” Filtering happens at the platform level, on every plan.
The same help article adds that Character.AI is “working on supporting a broader range of Characters (e.g., villain Characters should not always be calm and polite)”. That is a problem on every plan too, and paying does not fix it.
If the filter is what bothers you, c.ai+ will not help, and your money is better spent elsewhere. Character.AI alternatives covers platforms that make different choices.
The age check and the under-18 experience
Character.AI checks ages across all accounts, using signals from your activity and, if needed, a selfie or ID check through a provider called Persona. Paying for c.ai+ does not skip it. Accounts identified as under 18 get reading mode, where open-ended chat is off by design, on every plan. Character.AI reading mode explains the one way out and what the check keeps.
Mod apps
“c.ai+ mod apk” and similar searches are common. The premium chat styles run on Character.AI’s servers and are tied to your account’s plan, so a modified app on your phone cannot turn them on. Many of these downloads come from unknown sources, and installing them means giving an unknown app access to your account.

The lite FAQ also notes a limit on moving down: lite is “designed for members upgrading from free”, and c.ai+ already includes everything in it. Moving up from lite to c.ai+ is easy in the app. On the web, you ask support to do it for you.
Is c.ai+ Worth It?
At $9.99 it is one of the cheaper subscriptions in this category. For comparison, janitor+ costs $12.99.
It is worth it if you already spend a lot of time on Character.AI and you want the best version of it. Unlimited DeepSqueak and the full memory suite are real upgrades, and they are the two things players complain about most.
It is not worth it for the reason many people consider it. c.ai+ makes Character.AI better at what Character.AI already is. It does not make it a different platform. The filter stays, and memory is still per chat. As we wrote in why Character.AI feels worse, the company’s recent announcements are mostly about comics, short videos and images, not the chat model — so what you are paying for today is the product as it is now, not a roadmap for roleplay.
A practical test: try monthly lite for one month before committing to a year. If DeepSqueak’s daily taste on lite is the part you keep running out of, c.ai+ is worth it for you.
How to Cancel, and Refunds
Where you cancel depends on where you paid.
App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android): cancel in your store’s subscription settings. Character.AI cannot cancel store subscriptions for you.
Website (paid through Stripe): go to Settings → Account → Manage. Character.AI emails you a secure link to its customer portal, where you can cancel. If the link does not arrive within five minutes, check your spam folder and that you entered the email on the account. For lite bought on the web, the lite FAQ says to submit a request on the support page under Payments and purchases instead.
Either way, your plan stays active until the end of the period you already paid for.
Refunds: App Store and Google Play purchases follow Apple’s and Google’s refund policies, and you ask them directly. For web purchases, you submit a request through Character.AI’s support page under Payments and purchases, with your purchase date and account email. Character.AI’s offer terms say “No partial refunds are issued for unused time within a billing period.”
Payment methods on the web are credit card, Apple Pay and Google Pay.

How do I cancel c.ai+? Cancel where you subscribed. If you paid in the app, cancel in the App Store or Google Play subscription settings. If you paid on the website, go to Settings, then Account, then Manage, and Character.AI emails you a link to the customer portal where you can cancel. Your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
