AI Dungeon Membership Tiers (2026): Prices, What Each Plan Buys, and Which to Pick
AI Dungeon has a free tier, called Wanderer, and four paid memberships: Journey at $14.99 a month, Legend at $29.99, Mythic at $49.99 and Ultimate at $99.99. A membership buys four things: more AI models, more context, more memories and a monthly bundle of credits. It does not buy more play. The free tier already has no limit on that.
So the real question is not “how much” but “what does each step add”. The plan names only tell you part of it. On AI Dungeon, context is set per model, not per plan, so the same $29.99 can be the top of the ladder for one model and the middle for another. That is the part this page works out.
Prices, models and context figures below were read from AI Dungeon’s own membership page and help centre on 2 October 2026.
If you only want to know what the free tier gives you, see is AI Dungeon free. For which model to play on, see the best AI Dungeon model.

A token is a piece of a word; 1,000 tokens is roughly 750 words. Context is how much of your story, plus your instructions and Story Cards, the AI can see when it writes the next reply. Latitude’s help page describes 32k as “about 40 pages of text”.
Latitude puts a “Best Value” badge on Mythic. We look at whether that holds below.
What a Membership Does Not Buy
It is worth starting here, because it is where most of the confusion comes from.
It does not buy more turns. Free play on AI Dungeon is not rationed. Latitude’s help centre says: “AI Dungeon is a free-to-play game, no matter what device you’re playing on”. Older versions of the game had energy and ads; both are gone from normal play.
It does not buy a “premium” version of the free models. Muse on Legend is the same Muse as on the free tier. What changes is how much of your story it is allowed to see.
It does not make the memory system a paid feature. The Memory Bank is on every tier, including free. What the tier sets is how many memories each adventure keeps: 25 on the free tier, 800 on Ultimate.
One line on the membership page applies to every plan: “Players with extreme AI usage may experience temporary slowdowns.”
Context by Model and Tier
This is the table that matters. It is every story model on AI Dungeon’s membership page on 2 October 2026, with the context each one gets on each tier. A dash means the model is not available on that tier.
| Model | Wanderer | Journey | Legend | Mythic | Ultimate |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dynamic Small | 4k | 8k | 16k | 32k (max) | 32k (max) |
| Muse | 4k | 16k | 32k (max) | 32k (max) | 32k (max) |
| Wayfarer Small 2 | 4k | 8k | 16k | 32k (max) | 32k (max) |
| Shimmer | 4k | 8k | 16k | 32k | 64k |
| Madness | 2k | 8k (max) | 8k (max) | 8k (max) | 8k (max) |
| Hearthfire | 2k | 8k | 16k | 32k (max) | 32k (max) |
| Harbinger | 2k | 8k | 16k | 32k (max) | 32k (max) |
| Fable | 4k | 8k (max) | 8k (max) | 8k (max) | 8k (max) |
| DeepSeek V4 Flash | 3k | 6k | 12k | 20k | 36k |
| Dynamic Large | — | 4k, +4k per credit | 8k, +4k per credit | 16k, +4k per credit | 32k (max) |
| Nova | — | 4k | 8k | 16k | 32k |
| Wayfarer Large | — | 4k | 8k | 16k | 32k |
| Gemma 4 31B | — | 6k | 12k | 20k | 36k |
| Shimmer Pro | — | 6k | 12k | 20k | 36k |
| Equinox | — | 6k | 12k | 20k | 36k |
| DeepSeek | — | 6k | 12k | 20k | 36k |
| Dynamic DeepSeek | — | 4k | 8k | 16k | 32k |
| GLM 5.3 Flash | — | 8k | 16k | 24k | 40k |
| GLM | — | credits only: 1,500 tokens per credit | credits only: 1,500 tokens per credit | 8k | 16k |
| Dynamic GLM | — | credits only: 1,500 tokens per credit | 8k | 16k | 24k |
| DeepSeek V4.1 | — | — | 8k | 16k | 24k |
| DeepSeek V4 Pro | — | — | — | credits only: 1,000 tokens per credit | 8k |
“Max” is Latitude’s own mark on the page: it means that model cannot go higher on any plan. “Credits only” means the tier lets you use the model, but every turn costs credits.
Four things follow from this table, and they decide which plan is right for you.
1. Madness and Fable stop at 8k on Journey. If one of those two is your model, nothing above Journey gives it more context. You would be paying for other things.
2. Muse stops at 32k on Legend. A Muse player gets on the $29.99 plan the same context that the $99.99 plan gives.
3. The other small models stop on Mythic. Dynamic Small, Wayfarer Small 2, Hearthfire and Harbinger all reach their maximum of 32k there. For them, Ultimate adds no context at all.
4. Ultimate is for the large models. Nova, Wayfarer Large, the DeepSeek models, Gemma, Equinox and GLM all keep growing up to Ultimate. So does Shimmer, the one small model that goes on to 64k.
The headline number on each plan (“up to 8k”, “up to 16k”) is therefore only a guide. Muse gets twice the headline on Journey and Legend. Several large models get less than the headline on every tier.
What Each Step Up Actually Adds
Wanderer to Journey — the big step ($14.99)
This is where most of the change happens. You go from 9 story models to 20. The eleven new ones are the larger models: Nova, Wayfarer Large, Equinox, Gemma 4 31B, Shimmer Pro, the DeepSeek and GLM families and the “Dynamic” options that switch between them.
Your small models get more room too. Muse goes from 4k to 16k, four times as much. Memories go from 25 to 100 per adventure. And you get 760 credits a month.
Journey comes with a one-week trial.
Journey to Legend — context doubles (+$15)
Legend adds one model, DeepSeek V4.1, and doubles the context of almost everything else. Muse reaches its maximum. Memories double to 200. Credits go to 1,650. One image generator, FLUX.2 [dev], is shown as unlimited from this tier.
Legend also comes with a one-week trial.
Legend to Mythic — the small models max out (+$20)
Mythic adds one model, DeepSeek V4 Pro, but only through credits: 1,000 tokens of context per credit, every turn. The small models reach 32k. The large ones grow again, to between 16k and 24k. Memories go to 400 and credits to 2,750.
Mythic to Ultimate — only for large models (+$50)
Ultimate adds no new model. The count stays at 22. What it adds is context on the large models (Nova and Wayfarer Large go from 16k to 32k, the DeepSeek group from 20k to 36k), a base 8k on DeepSeek V4 Pro with no credit cost, 800 memories and 5,200 credits.
Latitude is direct about who this is for. Its help page says: “In short, Ultimate is NOT the right tier for most players.”
Is the Bigger Plan Better Value? The Arithmetic
Many subscriptions get cheaper per unit as you go up. We checked whether AI Dungeon’s do. These numbers are our arithmetic on Latitude’s figures.
| Journey | Legend | Mythic | Ultimate | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $14.99 | $29.99 | $49.99 | $99.99 |
| Credits per dollar | 51 | 55 | 55 | 52 |
| Memories per dollar | 6.7 | 6.7 | 8.0 | 8.0 |
| Nova context | 4k | 8k | 16k | 32k |
| Dollars per 1k of Nova context | $3.75 | $3.75 | $3.12 | $3.12 |
The result is flat. Each step up gives more in about the same proportion as it costs more. There is no real volume discount hidden in the higher plans, and no penalty either. Mythic and Ultimate are slightly better per unit than Journey and Legend on memories and on large-model context, and that is all.
That makes the choice simpler than it looks. You are not hunting for the best deal. You are choosing how much context you need, and paying in proportion.
So is Mythic the “best value”, as its badge says? For a player on the small models, yes in one sense: it is the cheapest plan where four of them reach their maximum. For a Muse player, Legend already does that for $20 less.
Credits: What They Are For
Every paid plan includes a monthly bundle of credits. The membership page says they “don’t expire, so any you don’t use right away will continue to accumulate on your account”. All players, including free ones, can also buy credits separately.
Credits pay for two things.
Images. Each image generator has a price in credits per image, from 3 for the cheapest to 60 for the most expensive. One generator, SDXL Lightning, costs no credits on any tier, including free. On 2 October the page showed FLUX.2 [dev] as unlimited on Legend and Mythic and FLUX.2 [pro] as unlimited on Mythic, but listed a credit price for both in the Ultimate column. If images are your reason to upgrade, check that column yourself before you pay.
Extra context, turn by turn. On some models you can push the context above what your tier includes by paying credits on every action. Latitude’s help centre gives the rule and an example:
“If a model says ‘Up to 32.0k tokens for 1 credit per 2000 tokens used beyond 4000 every turn’, that means that when you’re playing at 4000 context, you won’t have to spend any credits. If you’d like to go up to 6000 context, then you’ll spend 1 credit every time you take an action, hit continue, or retry.”
The words to notice are “every time” and “retry”. Extended context is a running cost, not a setting you pay for once.
Here is what that means with real numbers. On Journey, Dynamic Large has 4k of context and offers 4k more per credit. Journey gives you 760 credits a month. If you play at 8k, you spend one credit per action, and 760 credits is 760 actions, about 25 a day. Retries count. In Latitude’s own example, going all the way to 32k costs 14 credits per action, and at that rate Journey’s whole monthly bundle is 54 actions.
So credits are a good way to try a bigger context, or to use it for an important scene. As a way to play at high context all month, they run out fast, and the plan above is the cheaper route. Running out does not stop you playing: you go back to the context your tier includes.
One more detail, if you pay for six or twelve months at once: Latitude says those members “receive the entire allotment of Credits at the beginning of their paid membership”, not month by month.
The Free Trial
Journey and Legend come with a one-week trial. Mythic and Ultimate do not show one.
Two things to know before you start it.
Credits do not arrive during the trial. Latitude’s help centre says credits are granted “after successful payment”, so “Credits are not available during the trial period”.
Latitude’s two pages describe cancelling a trial differently. The membership page says: “If you cancel a free trial, you’ll keep the trial benefits until the trial period ends, and you won’t be charged.” An older help-centre article says the opposite: “premium benefits end when a trial is canceled”. The membership page is the one you subscribe from, so it is the better guide to what happens today. If keeping the full week matters to you, the safe way is to cancel near the end of it.
Monthly, Six Months or a Year
Latitude’s help centre says each membership has “customizable subscription lengths with discounts available”: you can subscribe for 12 months, 6 months or month to month, and all of them renew automatically.
The membership page shows only the monthly prices until you choose a plan, so we do not quote the longer-term prices here. The Shadow tiers are different: they are monthly only, with no annual option.
How to Change, Cancel or Restore a Membership
Where you subscribed decides where you manage it. AI Dungeon sells memberships through three channels: Stripe (on the web), Google Play and the Apple App Store.
To change or cancel on the web: click your profile picture, then Settings → Membership. From there you can change, manage or cancel the plan.
If you subscribed in an app store: you must manage it in that store. Latitude says Google and Apple subscriptions “must be managed through those platforms”.
What happens when you upgrade: you get the new tier’s models and benefits at once. Your credits do not reset; you receive the difference between the old tier’s grant and the new one.
What happens when you cancel: you keep your plan until the end of the period you paid for.
If the app says you have no subscription. This is a common search, and Latitude documents the fix for store purchases:
- In the app, tap your profile picture to open settings.
- Tap Restore Subscription.
- When it finishes, the word “Wanderer” under your name should be gone.
- If it is still there, sign out and sign in again.
If that fails, email Latitude’s support. Our AI Dungeon not working guide covers the other account problems.
Refunds
Latitude’s policy is more flexible than most. The membership page says:
“If you’re dissatisfied with your current subscription period or forgot to cancel your subscription, email [email protected] and we’ll do our best to make it right.”
The help centre adds that if you forgot to cancel and stopped playing, Latitude “can review your account for a refund back to your last active date”.
There is one hard limit: if you subscribed through Apple, the refund has to come from Apple. Latitude says Apple’s policy does not allow it to handle those refunds itself.
The Shadow Tiers, Above Ultimate
Above Ultimate there are three more plans: Banshee, Reaper and Apocalypse. They are not on the main membership page. You can only buy them on the web, only month by month, and you must cancel any app-store subscription first.
Each Shadow tier doubles the context of the one below it, for models that are not already at their maximum. Latitude’s example: a model with 4k on Ultimate has 8k on Banshee, 16k on Reaper and 32k on Apocalypse. Shadow members can also give premium access to other people through a “Shadow Clan”, which works like a family plan.
When we last saw the Shadow page, on 24 August 2026, the prices were $246.66, $496.66 and $996.66 a month. That page is only visible from inside an account, so check it yourself before relying on those numbers.
Latitude’s own description is the best advice: Shadow tiers “are not the right option for the average player—not even the above average player”. They were made for people who were buying credit packs again and again.
Old Plan Names: Adventurer, Hero, Champion, Wraith, Traveler
If you see these names in an old guide or on your own account, here is what happened to each. All of this is from Latitude’s help centre.
- Hero / Champion — the old names for the $15 tier. It is now Journey. Nothing else about it changed.
- Adventurer — a cheaper tier that was removed. Latitude gave its benefits to free players. People who were already subscribed keep it as long as they do not change plans.
- Wraith — a hidden tier that was replaced by Ultimate on 22 April 2026. Ultimate is cheaper. Existing Wraith subscribers keep it; nobody new can buy it.
- Traveler — the one-time purchase from the old Steam version. Latitude says everything it included “is now given to our free tier by default”.
Does a Membership Cover Voyage?
Voyage is Latitude’s newer, more structured game. The membership page answers two questions about it.
You can try Voyage’s premium features “with a limited demo while keeping your current AI Dungeon membership”, and Voyage’s public multiplayer “is free for everyone and does not require a subscription”.
Latitude also sells Voyage Unlimited plans. If you switch to one, the page says you get “unlimited core Voyage play, Usage for premium Voyage features, and unlimited AI Dungeon use at the same level as your current plan”. The trade is in the next sentence: “Voyage Unlimited plans do not include a monthly Credit grant.”
So if you use credits for images or extra context in AI Dungeon, switching costs you those. We compare the two ladders in Voyage pricing.
Which Membership Should You Pick?
| You are… | Our suggestion |
|---|---|
| Playing short or casual stories | Stay on Wanderer. Free play is unlimited |
| On the free tier and the AI keeps forgetting | Journey. More than twice the models and two to four times the context |
| Playing Madness or Fable | Journey. Both are at their maximum there |
| Playing Muse | Legend. Muse reaches its 32k maximum |
| Playing Wayfarer Small 2, Hearthfire, Harbinger or Dynamic Small in long campaigns | Mythic. All four reach their maximum |
| Playing Nova, Wayfarer Large or DeepSeek and wanting 32k or more | Ultimate — and only then |
| Not sure yet | Start a Journey or Legend trial, and remember credits arrive only after the first payment |
| Wanting more context for one important scene | Spend credits instead of upgrading |
Whichever plan you choose, more context is not the same as a better memory. A larger window lets the AI see more of the story; it does not decide what is worth keeping. How you use Plot Essentials, the Story Summary and Story Cards still does most of the work, on every tier.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does an AI Dungeon membership cost?
There are four paid memberships: Journey at $14.99 a month, Legend at $29.99, Mythic at $49.99 and Ultimate at $99.99. The free tier is called Wanderer. Latitude also offers 6-month and 12-month subscriptions at a discount. Above Ultimate there are three web-only Shadow tiers that Latitude itself says are not the right option for the average player.
Which AI Dungeon membership is best?
It depends on the model you play. If you play Muse, Legend is the best fit, because Muse reaches its maximum of 32k tokens of context there and no higher plan gives it more. If you play the other small models, they reach their maximum on Mythic. Ultimate only adds context for the large models, and Latitude’s own help page says Ultimate is not the right tier for most players. If you are new, Journey is the big step: it takes you from 9 story models to 20.
Does AI Dungeon cost money?
No. AI Dungeon is free to play on every device, with 9 story models, up to 4k tokens of context, 25 memories and one image generator with no credit cost. Memberships are optional. They add more models, more context, more memories and a monthly bundle of credits.
Is an AI Dungeon membership worth it?
It is worth it if your stories are long enough that the AI forgets them, or if you want the larger models that the free tier does not have. Context is the main thing a membership buys. It is not worth it for short, casual sessions, because the free tier has no limit on how much you play.
Does AI Dungeon have a free trial?
Yes. Journey and Legend come with a one-week trial. Credits are not granted during the trial; they arrive after the first payment. Latitude’s pricing page says that if you cancel a trial you keep the benefits until the trial ends and are not charged. An older help-centre article says benefits end when the trial is cancelled, so if it matters to you, cancel near the end of the week.
How do I cancel my AI Dungeon subscription?
If you subscribed on the web, click your profile picture, then Settings, then Membership, and change or cancel the plan there. If you subscribed through Google Play or the Apple App Store, you have to cancel in that store. After you cancel, you keep your plan until the end of the period you paid for.
Can I get a refund from AI Dungeon?
Sometimes. Latitude says that if you are dissatisfied with your current subscription period or forgot to cancel, you can email support and it will do its best to make it right, and that it can review an account for a refund back to the last active date. If you subscribed through Apple, the refund has to be requested from Apple.
Why does AI Dungeon say I have no subscription when I paid?
This usually happens with subscriptions bought through Google Play or the App Store. In the app, tap your profile picture to open settings and tap Restore Subscription. When it finishes, the word Wanderer under your name should be gone. If it is still there, sign out and sign in again. If that does not work, Latitude asks you to email support.
Does an AI Dungeon membership include Voyage?
You can try Voyage’s premium features with a limited demo while keeping your AI Dungeon membership, and Voyage’s public multiplayer is free for everyone. Latitude also sells Voyage Unlimited plans, which give unlimited core Voyage play and AI Dungeon use at the same level as your current plan, but do not include a monthly credit grant.
Prices, model lists, context figures, image-generator prices, the plan labels and the membership FAQ are from AI Dungeon’s membership page (play.aidungeon.com/pricing), read on 2 October 2026. Memories per tier, subscription lengths, the trial, credit timing, the credit-for-context example, cancelling, restoring, refunds, the Shadow tiers and the history of the old plan names are from Latitude’s help centre on the same day. The Shadow tier prices are from our own check on 24 August 2026. Credits per dollar, memories per dollar, dollars per 1k of context and the actions-per-month figures are our own arithmetic.
