Solo RPG Master is a single-player storyteller for ChatGPT that lets you drop into almost any setting you can name — pick a universe and it runs the story from there, with health management, skills, inventory, and visual scene creation along the way. It’s available in both English and French, and it has earned its place as the most-played ChatGPT RPG of its kind.
That popularity is deserved. Across my playthroughs it consistently produced as believable and varied a cast of characters and love interests as any ChatGPT game I’ve reviewed — the people in your story feel distinct rather than recycled, and they hold their shape from scene to scene. Story, consistency, and player agency are all genuine strengths: it stays coherent and keeps the wheel in your hands. NPC Fidelity — 3 and Player Agency — 3 are the joint-highest we have given a model-based game, though platforms with a real engine behind them score higher still.
The trade-off is its generalist design. Because the prompt carries no world of its own, the setting is only ever as original as your prompt — ask for a zombie apocalypse or a medieval fantasy and you’ll get a competent, well-run version of exactly that cliché, with no built-in lore to surprise you. The other weak point is the mechanical layer: the inventory and stat tracking doesn’t hold up, often falling apart in fewer than 20 turns, so treat those systems as light flavor rather than something you can lean on.
Taken together it’s a solid, dependable pick — the characters and storytelling carry it well past its rough edges. The only game we have run on the extended, long-campaign tier. A free Custom GPT. 2.6 out of 5.
