Is NOPOTIONS Legit? Who Runs It, What a Turn Costs, and What You Agree To (2026)
Yes, NOPOTIONS is legit: it is a real, playable AI RPG run by a registered Canadian company, NOPOTIONS Inc., with published terms, a working refund policy and a patch history going back to December 2025. It is free to start, it charges by the turn, and the payments go through Stripe. The honest caveats are not about fraud. They are the ones any game in alpha carries — and NOPOTIONS writes them into its terms more plainly than most.
We have played it: it scores 3.8 out of 5 on our benchmark, fourth of twenty-five platforms. This page is about the other question — whether it is safe to give it your time, your money and your stories. Everything below was checked against nopotions.com, its terms of service, its privacy policy and its patch notes on 13 September 2026.
Access disclosure: NOPOTIONS gave us a comped Max account to play the game for our review. Arcanum is independent and unpaid; no commercial relationship exists between NOPOTIONS and Arcanum, and no conditions were attached to this coverage.
The Short Answer
- Who runs it: NOPOTIONS Inc., a Canadian corporation with a published office address in Toronto. Its terms are governed by the laws of Ontario.
- Is it free: yes. Up to 10 free credits a day, capped at 100 a month. One credit pays for one turn.
- What paying buys: more turns. Until 31 December 2026, free players get the same premium narration model as paying ones.
- Payments: Stripe on the web. There is no App Store or Google Play app, so no store billing either.
- Refunds: unused credit packs within 14 days; unequipped cosmetics within 14 days; subscriptions only at the studio’s discretion within 7 days.
- Your data: sign-in is through Google, Apple or Meta only. Stories are private unless you share them, are not sold or used for advertising, and may be used to train the game’s AI.
- The real caveat: it is an alpha. The terms say your characters and progress can be reset or lost, and cap the studio’s liability for that at $50.
Who Is Behind NOPOTIONS?
NOPOTIONS is made by NOPOTIONS Inc., which its privacy policy describes as “a Canadian corporation with offices at 350 Bay Street, Suite 1300B, Toronto”. The terms of service name the same company, set Ontario and Canadian federal law as the governing law, and publish separate contact addresses for support, privacy and security — [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected].
The strongest sign that a studio is real is not its legal page, though. It is whether the game keeps changing. NOPOTIONS publishes its patch notes on its official wiki, and they are unusually detailed:
- 33 releases between Alpha 0.0.1 on 26 December 2025 and Alpha 0.0.30a on 1 September 2026 — roughly one every eight days for eight months.
- The latest patch alone lists 44 individual bug fixes, written in plain language (“Fixed a bug where a potion poured on an ally healed you instead of them”).
- The 21 August patch added a new settlement, a third starting scenario, a new tier of feats for every class and skill, and new 3D dice.
The studio talks to players on its official Discord, which had just over 2,000 members on 13 September 2026, and it runs a subreddit, r/nopotions, and a YouTube channel. None of that proves quality. It does prove that people are building it, in public, every week.
Early Access or Alpha? And Is There a Release Date?
You will see both words, and they describe the same thing. The website calls NOPOTIONS Early Access. The patch notes number every build as an alpha. The terms of service use both: “an early-access (“alpha”) product.”
We found no date for a full release on the studio’s site. What it says instead is that it is “actively developing new features, regions, and storylines based on player feedback.” The visible gaps are real — only two of the six listed classes are playable, and player spellcasting has not shipped — so treat NOPOTIONS as a game that is playable now and unfinished now.
What “alpha” means for you is written in section 2 of the terms, and it is worth reading in plain words:
- Your characters, world data, sessions and other content “may be modified, reset, lost, or permanently deleted” while the game is in alpha.
- The studio promises “reasonable efforts” to keep them, but no guarantee.
- If content is lost, its liability is capped at $50, on top of any refund you are owed under the payment rules.
That is not a warning sign. It is the normal risk of an unfinished game, stated honestly. But it does mean you should not buy a year of play expecting your character to be safe from every future change.
Is NOPOTIONS Free?
Yes, and the free tier is a real one. Every account — free or paid — gets daily claim credits: up to 10 a day, capped at 100 in any rolling 30-day period, and you can hold up to 100 at a time. They stay valid as long as your account is active.
The free tier also currently includes both of the studio’s narration models, Flask and Elixir. Elixir is the premium one; free access to it was extended to 31 December 2026 in the 21 August patch. After that date, the pricing page implies free players move to Flask only.
100 credits is 100 turns a month, or about three a day. That is enough to make a character, learn the systems and decide whether you like it. It is not enough for a long evening every night. Our beginner’s guide covers what to do with those first turns.
What a Turn Costs
NOPOTIONS charges the fairest unit we have found in this category: one credit per turn, not per action. A turn starts when you message the narrator and ends at the next YOUR TURN marker. The dice rolls, movement confirmations and inventory prompts inside it are all covered by that one credit. Equipping items and managing your inventory between turns are free.
Here are the plans, verified on nopotions.com on 13 September 2026:
| Plan | Price | Credits per month | Model | Cost per turn |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 100, from the daily claim | Flask, plus Elixir until 31 December | — |
| Premium | $19.99/mo | 900 + 100 from the daily claim | Elixir | about 2.0¢ |
| Max | $39.99/mo | 2,400 + 100 from the daily claim | Elixir | about 1.6¢ |
And the one-time credit packs, which do not expire while your account is active:
| Pack | Price | Credits | Cost per turn |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze | $3.49 | 100 | about 3.5¢ |
| Silver | $8.99 | 300 | about 3.0¢ |
| Gold | $19.99 | 700 | about 2.9¢ |
The cost-per-turn column is our arithmetic, counting the daily-claim credits in the monthly totals. It shows the usual shape: the subscription is the cheaper way to buy volume, and a pack is the way to top up a month without committing to one.
Read the rest of the pricing table closely, because it tells you what paying does not buy. On the pricing page, the Quality, Memory and Speed rows read the same on all three plans — “Advanced”, “Extended”, “Expanded”. Until 31 December, the free tier also has Elixir. So what $19.99 buys today is mostly more turns. The other differences we could confirm are smaller: more free undos per day (one on Free, three on Premium, five on Max), and character slots — 5 on Premium and 10 on Max, which the 21 August patch made permanent even if you later cancel.
Dice skins are the only other purchase: Standard skins at $4.99 and Masterwork skins at $9.99, one-time. They are cosmetic only and give no gameplay advantage, and the terms say so.
Three smaller rules from the terms that are worth knowing:
- Free credits are spent first. Daily-claim and bonus credits go before subscription or pack credits.
- Subscription credits do not roll over. They reset at the start of each billing period.
- A failed response is refunded — most of the time. If the narrator fails because of a service error, the credit comes back automatically. A refusal by the content-safety system is not refunded.
If you invite a friend, the 21 August patch notes say both of you get a 200-credit bonus when they subscribe. For how NOPOTIONS compares with every other platform’s pricing, see what an AI RPG actually costs.
Refunds and Cancelling
This is where “is it legit” usually gets decided, so here is exactly what the terms of service (last updated 22 August 2026) say.
| What you bought | Can you get a refund? |
|---|---|
| Subscription | Not as a matter of policy for a partly used month. As “a goodwill measure”, the studio may consider a request within 7 days of payment, at its discretion. If it refunds you, you drop to the free tier immediately and lose that period’s subscription credits. |
| Credit pack | Yes, a full refund within 14 days of purchase — but only if you have not used any credits from that pack. |
| Dice skin | Yes, within 14 days — but only if you have not equipped it. If the studio retires a skin you recently bought, it refunds you or gives equal credit. |
Cancelling is simple, and the terms promise it stays simple. You cancel online in your account settings, without contacting support, and the terms say the cancellation flow “is at least as straightforward as the signup flow.” You keep your plan and its credits until the end of the period you paid for. You get a confirmation email with the date it takes effect.
Price changes come with notice. Current subscribers get at least 7 and at most 30 days’ notice of a price increase, by email, with instructions to cancel first.
One small inconsistency: the terms say plan upgrades take effect at the start of your next billing period, while the 1 September patch notes announce mid-cycle upgrades with the unused value of your old plan applied as prorated credits. The patch is newer than the terms, so expect the in-game upgrade screen to reflect the patch.
What Happens to Your Data and Your Stories
NOPOTIONS joined our directory after our data-custody audit was run, so it is not one of the eighteen platforms scored there. What follows comes from its privacy policy (last updated 7 July 2026) and its terms. We have not tested the account controls it describes.
Signing in. There is no NOPOTIONS password. You sign in through Google, Apple or Meta (Facebook), and the studio receives your basic profile — name, email, profile picture and an identifier.
Payments. Card details go to Stripe. The studio says it does not store full card numbers, only a transaction record with the last four digits.
Your stories. Your inputs, the narrator’s outputs and your game state are stored so you can return to your campaign. Unless you publish or share something, your sessions, characters and worlds are private to your account. To generate responses, your inputs are sent to third-party language-model providers, which the policy does not name and says may change. A diagnostic copy also goes to a monitoring service for debugging and abuse investigation.
AI training. The terms say the studio may use your inputs and outputs “to operate, maintain, debug, provide, improve, and train the Services and the underlying AI systems,” “subject to any choices or controls we make available to you in your account settings.” We have not checked whether such a setting exists today. Users in the EU and UK have a stated right to object to AI-training use.
What it promises not to do. It does not sell personal information. It does not use your AI conversations, sessions, characters or worlds for marketing or advertising, and does not send them to advertising partners. Meta and Reddit advertising pixels load only if you accept marketing cookies, and the site honours the Global Privacy Control browser signal.
Deleting your account. There is a Delete Account control in your account settings. Deletion of your personal information is completed within 30 days, apart from records the law requires it to keep, such as payment records.
Age. The terms require every player to be 18 or older, and the studio closes accounts it finds were made by someone younger.
So Is It Safe to Pay For?
Safe to try: yes, without spending anything. The free tier is enough to find out whether the game is for you, and nothing about the company, the payment setup or the policies is a red flag.
Safe to subscribe: yes, with your eyes open. The monthly plan is easy to cancel and cannot surprise you with a price rise. Just know two things before you pay. Refunds on a subscription are discretionary, not guaranteed. And the game is in alpha, so the terms allow your progress to be reset.
If you want a smaller commitment, buy a pack instead. A Bronze pack is $3.49, its credits do not reset each month, and it is fully refundable within 14 days if you have not touched it.
Is It Actually Any Good?
That is a different question, and it has its own answer. We rated NOPOTIONS 3.8 out of 5. It is the only platform we have ever given Player Agency — 5, because it never plays your character for you, and its engine rolls every check in the open. It loses points on memory of the story, which is its weakest system, and on the parts of the game that are not built yet. The full reasoning is in our NOPOTIONS review, and the scores are on the directory entry.
